Biography

I was born in Lubbeek, Belgium, in 1984. My first electronics experience I got when I was 6 years old: with some switches, batteries, buzzers and light-bulbs I fabricated all kinds of alarm systems to my bedroom. On my 11th birthday my godfather (ON6YZ) proposed me to help me setting up a ham radio station. By the beginning of 1998 I got my first license (ON2BHR). Afterwards, I also did the more advanced exams to obtain a license for all amateur radio frequency bands. Currently I'm using the callsign ON4APT.

Personal Life

My hobbies, next to electronics, are cycling, running, plane-spotting, BBQ and Music (I'm a pianist and a singer). Since september 2014, however, I'm quite occupied by my daughter Geike. Since several months, however, we go running and cycling together (Geike is sitting in a trailer).

When I was 6 years old, I joined the Boyscouts of Lubbeek. I have been a member for 24 years, of which 8 years as a monitor and 5 years as a chair. Currently I'm responsible for the construction works of our new buildings.

Education and Professional Life

In 2007 I received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. The subject of my Master thesis was the design of an accurate integrated frequency reference. From 2007 to 2014 I was working as a research assistant at the MICAS laboratories of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven towards a PhD degree on the design of ultra-low-power time-based building blocks for wireless sensor networks, which I received in April 2014. At KU Leuven, I was involved in and has set up several extra-curricular educational projects, some of them in co-operation with the IEEE Student Branch of Leuven. Most of my controller experience I obtained during my didactical work at the university.

Apart from this, I'm also an active member of the IEEE. I have been vice-chair technical activities of the IEEE student branch of Leuven between 2009 and 2013 and chaired the IEEE Student Branch and GOLD congress 2010 (SBC2010). From 2011 to 2014, I was the IEEE Benelux GOLD (Young Professionals) chair and co-chair of the IEEE SSCS Benelux chapter. Currently (since 2015), I'm the treasurer of the Benelux YP chapter and Membership Development officer of the IEEE Benelux Section.

Currently I'm employed as a Lead Engineer with MinDCet, Belgium, an IC design house. The focus of our projects is on power management and high-voltage (up to 10kV) applications.
